Weekend revellers will receive Bluetooth message from police

Revellers going to pubs and clubs in Falkirk, Stirling and Alloa this weekend will receive a Bluetooth message from Central Scotland Police.

Officers on patrol in the town and city centres will be using Bluetooth technology to urge members of the public to take care of their personal possession when they are out.

Constable David Reid, of Falkirk Interventions Unit, said: “When people are out having a good time their inhibitions are lowered and they become far more trusting. They leave their handbags unattended when sitting next to strangers or leave them open and easier for a thief to steal from.

“If a woman has her handbag, keys, purse or mobile stolen they become vulnerable. If a man has his wallet or mobile phone taken he is vulnerable too. If these things are stolen how then do you get home or get in touch with others to arrange a lift home?

“Our Bluetooth message will be very simple, it will be urging those on nights out to look after their possessions as thieves operate in pubs and clubs throughout the force area. The Forth Valley area is one of the safest areas in Scotland and we want people to enjoy their nights out – and to make it more difficult for thieves.”
