Forensic Support Unit

As of April 1 2007 our Forensic Support Unit was amalgamated as part of the Scottish Police Services Authority.

This was carried out as part of the review of all police services in Scotland.

The Forensic Support Unit provides an essential service to the investigation of crimes.

Six members of staff are in the unit and are based at police HQ in Stirling.

We attend at scenes of crime from house breaking to murder and carry out forensic examinations. We are looking to find any DNA or fingerprints which can help identify the person responsible.

We also have a chemical treatment lab where we examine items brought in where we run tests to find fingerprints or DNA.

We also use swabs to retrieve DNA from the scene of a crime.

Five of our members of staff are trained in E-fit which involves interviewing the witness and compiling a computer based image.
