Chief Constables Past & Present

Central Scotland Police came into existence as an organisation on May 16 1975 upon local government regionalisation.

Since then, six Chief Constables - including the present postholder Derek Penman - have led the Force.

Edward Frizzell was the Chief Constable who took over in charge of the new Force. He had previously been the Chief Constable of Stirling and Clackmannan Police. Mr Frizzell retired in November 1979.

Ian Oliver took over and served as Chief Constable until November 1990 when William Wilson was appointed.

Mr Wilson led the Force for a decade, handing over to Andrew Cameron in August 2000. Mr Cameron retired on September 30 2008 and Mr Smith took up post on October 1 2008.

Mr Smith was asked to lead on the reform of Scottish Policing in his role as Chief Constable and ACPOS President, which he will carry out on a full time basis from November 2011.
